Fostering cutting edge research
at Michigan Technological University

The Life Sciences Technology Institute (LSTI) promotes education and research in biotechnology for the benefit of society and the environment. The major focus is to promote research excellence, the dissemination of knowledge, and commitment to quality education in the sciences and engineering at MTU.

The LSTI fosters collaborative research, provides state-of-the-art research facilities, and contributes to educational opportunities in biotechnology. The diversity of faculty research is reflected in the wide range of disciplines including biology, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, computer science, forestry, materials science, mathematics, mechanical engineering, and physics.

Our Center continues the tradition of excellence in research, student training, and outreach with substantial research grants and contracts, the major portion coming from the primary national funding agencies. We offer:

  • graduate fellowships
  • undergraduate research opportunities
  • a seminar series
  • travel awards
  • an infrastructure development program
  • an annual student research forum

All of which exemplify our conviction to directly and effectively support science and engineering research at Michigan Technological University.
